Luminant: Supporting our Vets and Training a New Generation of Energy Specialists

Luminant is a competitive power generation business that provides reliable, affordable electricity to Texas consumers. With roots that stretch back more than 130 years, the company is the largest power generator in the state with nearly 10,300 megawatts of generation capacity coming from nuclear and coal resources.

Luminant also maintains a commitment to hiring military veterans who have honorably served the U.S. Because the U.S. military employs a diverse, skilled workforce, Luminant considers veterans a tremendous asset to the company’s team. In fact, veterans, guardsmen and reservists account for nearly 15 percent of the company’s employee base.

Recognizing the skills veterans bring to civilian jobs, Luminant takes part in a national veteran mentoring program through American Corporate Partners, which is designed to assist veterans in their career development. The company also partners with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve to further develop and promote a supportive work environment for service members in the Reserve and National Guard. Many of Luminant’s employees, both military and civilian, serve as mentors to new veterans to help ease their transition to the civilian workforce.

Always looking to recruit skilled veterans, guardsmen and reservists to join the company’s team, Luminant is also a regular at military career fairs and other professional development events.

“Coming to work at Luminant has been great for me. The company is truly supportive of my service in the Guard, not to mention that you won’t find better people to work with than you will here at Luminant,” said Chad Adamson, a former National Guardsman and Mine Supervisor. “I’d encourage any serviceman or woman to consider giving this company a look when determining your career options.”
