Navajo Transitional Energy Company (NTEC) was created by the Navajo Nation to achieve greater sovereignty over its natural resources. NTEC owns and operates multiple coal mines, including the Navajo Mine, and also holds a seven percent interest in the Four Corners Power Plant. The Navajo Mine first began operations in 1963 and is the sole provider of coal to the Four Corners Power Plant, which plays a significant role in meeting the energy needs of the Southwest. With a long history of operating to the highest standards for the environment and its community, NTEC is a part of the fabric of U.S. energy production.
