In September, 47 miners will be recognized in the Nevada Mining Association’s (NVMA) 2023 Individual Safety Awards, which are based on performance in the previous calendar year. These awards celebrate the industry professionals whose outstanding efforts ensure mine workers return home safely after every shift. A total of 133 nominations were submitted and voted on by industry peers. Among the winners this year were 15 miners from Nevada Gold Mines, a joint venture between Barrick and Newmont. Both companies operate under a culture of safety that is recognizable and admirable.
For example, Barrick has put in place a new road map for increased safety in 2023, showing that safety is not static, but instead a dynamic process that must be maintained and built continuously. For Newmont, Safety is one of its core values. The most important target is to experience no work-related fatalities at any Newmont-operated site or facility. That was achieved at the Company’s managed operations in 2022 and for the fourth year in a row.
We welcome the celebration of every one of the awardees; a complete list of winners can be found on the NVMA website.
