WASHINGTON, D.C. – The National Mining Association (NMA) today issued the following statement on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) direction to the Forest Service to withdraw the Notice of Availability and rescind the Final Environmental Impact Statement and draft Record of Decision on the Resolution Copper Project.
Rich Nolan, President and CEO, NMA: “Resolution Copper has undergone a thorough public consultation over the last seven years, adhering to the process run by the Forest Service and started under the Obama administration. Every step of the way it has included extensive input from tribes and the local community. The mining industry stands ready to support the Biden administration’s aggressive plans for electrification and modernizing our nation’s electric grid – actions that will require massive amounts of copper and other mined materials – but it is imperative that our permitting processes proceed in a timely manner to support those goals.”
